OUR STORY
Established in 2018 by Professor Sidat Yaffa, Sare Yaffa Ranch is a Gambian livestock production enterprise that provides healthy, nutritious, and affordable meat protein to the local community and beyond. Located near Missira Village, Sandu District, Upper River Region, The Gambia, our ranch encompasses approximately 1.5 hectares and offers a unique environment for raising high-quality livestock. Our drilled borehole provides a clean and consistent fresh water supply for our livestock, ensuring their health and well-being. Our approach to animal care is meticulous. We practice a semi-intensive grazing system, allowing our animals to roam freely in natural pastures for a portion of the day. This is complemented by supplemental feeding with high-quality grains, groundnut hay, and wheat bran to ensure optimal health and growth. Veterinary services are readily available on the ranch all year round to address any health concerns. Sare Yaffa Ranch goes beyond simply producing top-quality Ndama breeds of cattle and West African Dwarf sheep. We are passionate about sharing our knowledge and expertise with surrounding villages and the general public by using the ranch as a Teaching Laboratory. We train local livestock owners, school children, other Gambians, and other visitors on how to properly care for their livestock under a changing climate. The ranch serves as a Sustainable Climate Change Adaptation Laboratory. By combining a commitment to quality, community, and sustainability, Sare Yaffa Ranch strives to be a leader in livestock production and a model for sustainable production in West Africa.
